OVERVIEW
If you were going to design a mountain biking playground, it would be
end up like Ax-les-Thermes. It's in the Pyrenees, just north of Andorra
and has the perfect mix of topography, scenery and trails to keep
any biker amused.
Ax is perfectly situated in the deep and picturesque Ariège valley.
It is surrounded by a high altitude plateau which can be accessed
by a unique road system. Each day we will transfer high, where we
enjoy world class trails with breathtaking views over the snow capped
mountains. Towards the end of the day we let gravity do the work
as we drop back into Ax on a heady cocktail of the single track,
stirred but hopefully not too shaken!
The town itself has been popular since Roman times, due
to its thermal springs which still flow freely down the streets. It is now a
popular base for summer and winter activity holidays enhancing its charm with
lots of interesting shops, restaurants and lively bars. On the day off you can
splash about in a canoe or take an aerial view of town from a paraglider. Those
wanting to relax, could take the train to the medieval town of Foix.
IS THIS TRIP FOR ME?
This week is aimed at people who enjoy regular mountain biking and have
had some exposure to single track. You will need to be reasonably
fit to get the most from the week. It is not suitable for beginners
to mountain biking or people in full body protection. If you enjoy
riding a bike in beautiful surroundings, then get booking. Most
of the riding is on unmade forest tracks or single-track. Most days
there is well over 1000m of downhill and up to 600m of up. Approximate
distances will be 35 to 50km per day, about 5-7 hours biking.
Normally there
are options for people who want to take it slightly easier. There
is a substantial amount of single-track during the week, most
of it is on gently undulating mule trails, however as our confidence
increases, steeper more technical tracks will be introduced. It is
important to us that people book the correct trip. Please do not hesitate
to contact us if you have have any
doubts.
