WHY HIRE A BIKE?

- Hiring a bike can save you the hassle of packing up and transporting your own.
- Most airlines now charge for the transportation of bikes (up to £40 per flights).
- Airlines do not guarantee to transport your bike if the flight is full.

- You don't have to worry about maintaining it during the week.
- You can return it dirty at the end of your trip.

- It is a good opportunity to try some new equipment.

- Your bike does not have the correct gearing for the mountains.

NOTES

There are a limited number of bikes of each size, so they will be allocated on a 'first come first served' basis. Our standard Road Bike is the Specialized Allez Sport and these will be allocated first. If there is not one of your size available then we will source a Tifosi for you (these bikes are very similar in spec)

1) Daily bike hire is to be paid for in France. Weekly hire will be added to your invoice.
2) Helmet hire is not included. Please bring your own or arrange hire on booking. It is compulsory to wear a helmet on all trips.
3) Standard pedals are provided - if you have shoes with cleats please bring your own pedals

4) If you have your own 'tried and tested' saddle then please bring it along.
5) Mini-Pumps, tyre levers and spare tubes are provided with all hire bikes in a saddle bag.
6) Road Bikes come with a basic bike computer to measure distance.
7) Luggage racks can be hired for an extra 20 Euros / week
8) If a bike is damaged, beyond normal wear and tear, you are expected to pay for the replacement part.
Your travel insurance may cover this.

HOW TO RESERVE A BIKE

If you are interested in reserving a hire bike, please let us know on booking. We will need to know your height and the frame size you ride usually.

HOW TO PACK UP YOUR OWN BIKE

All airlines now insist that your bike is either be boxed or bagged. The cheapest option (which is also good if you have a lack of storage space at home) is to blag a cardboard box from a local bike store (note that road and MTB boxes are different shapes). More and more bike shops are offering a bike bag / box rental service which may be worth looking into. If you know that you are going to do a lot of flying with you bike then check out the entire range available on the wiggle website.

Packing up your bike need not be too complicated. The key thing is to brace the forks / rear stay after you have taken a wheel out - this can be done with an old hub or the piece of plastic you bike came with (any bike shop will give you one of these for free). Full info on packing up you bike will come with your bike bag / box, otherwise check out this bikeradar.com article which gives you a comprehensive overview.  If you not sure how to pack your bike, or do not have a bike box, then check out Bike Box Online for hire of boxes and professional bike packing.

There is no need to bring any tools with you to reassemble your bike (except specific fork / suspension pumps). We have a torque wrench, but you will need to know the torque values. We naturally have track pumps available throughout the trip.

If you have any questions about packing up your bike then please contact us.
