WHY HIRE A BIKE?- Hiring a bike can save you the hassle of packing up and transporting your own.- Increasingly airlines are charging for the transportation of bikes. - Airlines do not guarantee to transport your bike if the flight is full. - You don't have to worry about maintaining it during the week. - You can return it dirty at the end of your trip. - It is a good opportunity to try some new equipment. COSTS
Daily bike hire is in Euros and is payable on the day you pick up the bike. Weekly hire is in £ sterling,
and the payment will be added to your holiday invoice.
NOTESThere are a limited number of bikes of each size, so they will be allocated on a 'first come first served' basis. If a bike of your size is not available then a suitable alternative will be acquired from the local bike shop. In this case, the make and spec cannot be determined in advance. The bikes from the hire shop are normally older and fairly well used. All MTB's have front suspension.1) Daily bike hire is to be paid for in France. Weekly hire will be added to your invoice. 2) Helmet hire is not included. Please bring your own or arrange hire on booking. It is compulsory to wear a helmet on all trips. 3) Standard pedals are provided - if you have SPD shoes please bring your own pedals 4) If you have your own 'tried and tested' saddle then please bring it along. 5) Mini-Pumps and spare tubes are provided with hire bikes. 6) Luggage racks can be hired for an extra 20 Euros / week 7) If a bike is damaged, beyond normal wear and tear, you are expected to pay for the replacement part. Your travel insurance may cover this. HOW TO RESERVE A BIKEIf you are interested in reserving a hire bike, please let us know on booking. We will need to know your height and/ the frame size you ride usually.HOW TO PACK UP YOUR OWN BIKEAll airlines now insist that your bike is either be boxed or bagged. The cheapest option (which is also good if you have a lack of storage space at home) is to blag a cardboard box from a local bike store (note that road and MTB boxes are different shapes). More and more bike shops are offering a bike bag / box rental service which may be worth looking into. If you know that you are going to do a lot of flying with you bike then check out the entire range available on the wiggle website.Packing up your bike need not be too complicated. The key thing is to brace the forks / rear stay after you have taken a wheel out - this can be done with an old hub or the piece of plastic you bike came with (any bike shop will give you one of these for free).
